Cleanse, apply eye product and any water-based essences, serums or lotions.

FAQs

In general, skincare products are applied, after cleansing, from thinnest to thickest consistency.

Oil Serums should be incorporated into a skincare routine after thin and watery topicals such as toners, essences, water-based serums, and retinol/retinoids. After applying Oil Serum, you can top with a cream moisturizer or a solid oil based face balm.

Alternately you can apply Oil Serum over your cream. Or end your routine at Oil Serum without layering anything on top. Choose whichever option works with your skin type or climate, the season, time of day, and/or desired skincare routine products.

Wear SPF when appropriate.

Absolutely! Acne is not caused by having oily skin or using oils on the skin. Indeed, acne is very often caused by an undersupply of oil or an imbalance of oils on the skin.

You skin produces its own oils, aka fatty acids, hence the Acid Mantle is a protective shield that keeps moisture in and maintains the skin's health.

Holy Grail Formula Face Serum regulates oil production and restores the acid mantle to calm down inflammatory acne. Tannins shrink pores to bring down the size of blemishes while anti-bacterial compounds fight the bacteria that cause acne.

All topicals that increase cellular turnover (ex. retinol/retinoids, AHA and BHA acids) have the potential to cause a temporary state of purging as the skin sheds its old cells and eliminates accumulated impurities.

Cellular turn over rates change by age group. In general, it takes 30-40 days for a complete turnover. Those with oilier skin types are more prone to purging. Oil production regulating oils can also cause purging while they restore the barrier function.

You can identify purging by it's typical characteristics:

  1. Area: Occurs in areas prone to clogged pores or where you typically have break outs.
  2. Presentation: Appears as uniform whiteheads or blackheads (not as inflamed, red pimples).
  3. Timing: Purging begins shortly after starting a new product (a few days to a few weeks).

Purging, should it occur, clears up on it's own after a few weeks. It can be a very satisfying experience, watching old trapped material get flushed from the skin, revealing smaller happier pores.
